Flash Brew - Chemex Recipe

The chemex brewing method is known to being simple & tasty. It is a vintage brewing method. A truly amazing brewing device. Below is a simple Chemex flash brew recipe. It can be easily replicated with any pour over device.

 

Here's what you need

  1. Chemex

  2. Filter

  3. 34 grams of the best coffee beans

  4. 175 grams of ice

  5. 345 grams of water (you can play around a little with this, depending on how you like your coffee)

The method

  1. Rinse the filter and purge the Chemex of the rinse water. It's also recommended to rinse the Chemex with cold water so as to not have a pre-heated brewing vessel.

  2. Fill the bottom of the Chemex with 175 grams of ice.

  3. Place the filter and ground coffee into the Chemex. A normal Chemex grind is good for the ground coffee.

  4. Heat the water to just below boiling (195-205 degrees Fahrenheit, 90-96 degree celcius).

  5. Use 50 grams of water for a bloom. Wait 30-40 seconds.

  6. Slowly pour the rest of the water over the coffee.

  7. Give the iced coffee a few swirls once it is done dripping to completely cool the coffee.

  8. Serve in a glass over fresh ice and enjoy. You may want to add a splash of milk or cream.
